Gothong automatically advanced in the championship round after topping the eight-game elimination round with 1,702 pinfalls.
Also making it to the top eight were Clarence Tiu (1,669), his older brother Clark (1,663), Edison Ho (1,661), Jomar Jumapao (1,655), Ed Aninon (1,629), Jericho Jumapao (1,617) and Edwin Apawan (1,560).
In match I following the step-the-ladder format, Sacred Heart School-Jesuit's Jomar Jumapo posted the highest pinfalls with 233 to eliminate Aninon (180), his older brother Jericho (175) and Apawan (228).
But in the second game, Jumapao was outlasted by Clark Tiu, 183-213. Thus, Tiu earned the right to face Gothong for the title.
In the finals, Gothong got the better of the former national pool by registering 248 pinfalls as against Tiu's 221 to claim the title and a berth to next month's battle of champions.
