Coached by champion-maker Grace Antigua, the Cebu Schools Foundation Inc. champion, wrought havoc in both the men's and women's division to log its first victories in the four-weekend tilt organized by Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA).
It was the men's team who first collared the win when it dismissed visitor Foundation University of Dumaguete City, 25-21, 25-16, while the women's group, skippered by Michelle Matuguina, walloped Talisay, 25-13, 25-12.
On the other hand, the Harou Iwanaga sponsored Hiroshi squad had a difficult time before resolving a hard-fighting Sirlitz, 25-21, 28-26, in the distaff side.
In the other game, Osaka Iridology breezed past USC also in the women's bracket with a 25-18, 25-18 win.
On the other hand, tournament director Jerry Guardo was satisfied with the turnout of the crowd in the opening ceremony despite the holiday. It was attended by Cebu City First Lady Margot Osmeña, Vice-Mayor Michael Rama and CEVA president Glen Soco.
"We are very happy with the turnout. We are doing this along with the fervor support of Glen and Joseph Gonzales to give our local players another venue for a compete at a higher level," said Guardo.
