Vidal survives tough foes in National bouldering

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -
Cebuano Jun Vidal maintained his top billing to rule the final leg of the 1st National Bouldering Circuit in Gorordo Avenue the other night.

Vidal, who spearheaded the Cebu-based Center of Gravity, maintained his composure from the first round down to the finals to win the crown.

The 22-year-old Vidal gained bonuses in the first and second walls both during his first attempts.

Manila's Jeff Capili was second after gaining two bonus points out of 12 total attempts.

Arjun Actub of Iligan, from fifth at the end of the elimination round, climbed to third place overall with two bonus points out of 16 attempts coming from three walls.

Cagayan's Carlo Chiong ended fourth place while neophyte Francis Cezar, also from the Center of Gravity, was fifth.

Two other Center of Gravity bets fielded by Ian Sepulveda namely Jido Climaco and Junrey Asignar were sixth and seventh, respectively. The eighth to tenth placers were veterans Edwin Gozum, Buddy Avincula and Jose Mari Cortes.

In the distaff side, Lissa Lesaca pulled down first round leader Kristine Robles to win the crown.

Both Lesaca and Robles were able to top-out the second wall with the former during her second attempt and the latter in her first climb. Both also gained a bonus each from that wall.

In the decider, Lesaca got a bonus after her second attempt out of three tries in the third wall while Robles failed in all four attempts paving the way for Lesaca's victory.

Iligan's Gizelle Lopez was third while Hayca Bunevacz was fourth and Bayang Belgira at fifth place.

Rounding up the top 10 cast in the women's open were Allen Enrique, Marvi Liparanon, Angel Pasculado, Cams Ventura and Alya Mongaya.
