Gorres downs Thai in 4th round

-
ALA teenage sensation Z "The Dream" Gorres brightened up his chances to fight for the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) 115-pound crown after scoring a spectacular fourth round stoppage of Thai Wisanu Pornobnum in the main event of the other night's "Fight for Fame" card at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

With the win, Gorres earned a mandatory shot at the OPBF super flyweight championship currently held by Japanese Masayuki Arinaga.

"Definitely he will fight for the OPBF title either in late February or early March next year. But he might fight in Las Vegas in January together with Cesar Amonsot under Guilty Promotions," said Antonio "Bidoy" Aldeguer, the manager of Gorres.

After dominating the first three rounds by pummeling the Thai with a flurry of punishing blows, Gorres suddenly sneaked in a lightning right uppercut to the chin that sent Pornobnum down to canvass midway in the fourth.

Pornobnum got up nimbly in time to beat the count only to swallow a bitter dose of his sleeping pill.

This as Gorres quickly and wisely went for the kill, landing a left jab followed up by a solid right hand that sent Pornobnum into a nightmarish sleep for good at 1:36 mark of the fourth period.

"Lipay ko nga nidaog ko, at least na-prove nako nga sayop ang pagtuo sa uban. Na-challenge pud ko ba sa mga criticisms against sa ako mao to nanigkamot ko og maayo," said Gorres.

In the supporting main event, Michael Domingo of SSG stable kept his RP bantamweight belt for the first time by defeating Rolly Lunas of Wakee Salud Stable via close unanimous decision.

The judges had it 115-114, 116-114 and 115-113 for Domingo.

The most exciting fight of the night went to ALA's Rollen del Castillo against the formerly undefeated Alex Aroy of RWS Stable.

The two fighters showed tremendous courage, but Del Castillo ended up winning by unanimous decision.

The other results had ALA Gym's Robert Allanic prevailing over Elorde Stable's Roy Doliguez by majority decision and Rocky Fuentes of ALA stable beating Bert Gawat by unanimous verdict.

Also, Winnie Bartiquil of Cagayan de Oro won by split decision over Jojo Intor, Milan Melindo beat Juaren Librez by decision and Alberto Yap of Cagayan de Oro scored a unanimous decision victory over Agie Marapao.
