SHS-J tops Cebu Chess Invitational tournament

Sacred Heart School-Jesuits (SHS-J) bagged the over-all championship crown in the recently concluded Cebu Chess Invitational Tournament at the SHS-J gym.

SHS-J accumulated a total of 14.0 points to top in the high school divisions, which is participated by 13 schools namely University of San Jose-Recoletos, University of the Philippines-Cebu College, Don Bosco College, St. Louise School-Mandaue, St. Joseph Academy, Collegio dela Inmaculada, University of San Carlos North and South Campuses, St. Theresa's College, Pope John Seminary, and St. Alphonsus Catholic School (SACS).

SACS followed with 6.0 points while CIC-Mandaue finished third also with 6.0 points.

Powered by skipper and board one gold medallist Nathan Sarigumba, SHS-J finished the boys category with 12.0 points together with Robert Caballero, Benito Yap and Michael Castañares, who also were board medallists.

The SHS-J girls team, on the other hand, reigned in the distaff side after posting 9.0 points, led by team captain Mae Anne Berdeles, Joanne Tan, Charmaine Rabeje and Johannah Esguerra.

USC South Campus and SACS followed with 8.0 points each.

SACS, on the other hand, topped in the grade school boys division scoring 11.5 points while CIC ruled the girls class with 10.5 points.

The tournament was held in celebration of SHS-J's 50th anniversary celebration, through is sports director Fr. Julian Hernando, SJ.
