Although a non-title brawl scheduled for 10 rounds, the bout is of equal significance for both fighters as it is an official OPBF qualifier wherein the winner earns a mandatory shot at the OPBF jr. bantamweight crown currently held by Japan's Masayuki Arinaga.
"I'll try my best to have a good showing. I dedicate this fight to my Cebuano fans because it has been a year already that I haven't fought here," said Gorres, who sports a 20-1-1 win-loss-draw record spiked with 11KOs.
"I can't make any prediction, but I'll finish the bout early if given a chance. I'll give my all-out best to win because I really want to fight for the OPBF championship," he added.
In his previous fight, Gorres scored a lopsided unanimous decision over former PABA flyweight champion Deeden Kengkarun last July 30 at the San Andres Sports and Civic Center in Manila.
Even though he beaten Kengkarun to the pulp, Gorres flunked in the eyes of some critics for his failure to knock out the Thai warrior, whose intent was to survive rather than slug it out with the Cebuano boxer.
This time though, ALA Gym chief trainer Edito "ALA" Villamor said the Cebuano boxing fans could expect a rejuvenated Gorres as they have been working vigorously to develop the stylish Cebuano slugger's power in the past two months.
"We've been working so hard to develop his power. That could be an added boost Gorres for fight against Pornobnom," said Villamor.
On the other hand, Pornobnom (16-5-1, 3KOs) won his last two fights, the last was a clinical first round stoppage of his fellow countryman Dechapol Bankluaygym last September 19 in Phang Nga, Thailand.
Pornobnom once vied for the WBF International flyweight title and PABA light flyweight crown, but he lost both to Filipino Sukarno Banjao and Indonesian Vicky Tahumil, respectively.
In the supporting main event of the slambang show bankrolled by international promoter Sammy "Don King" Gello-ani, Michael Domingo of SGG Stable will make the first defense of his RP bantamweight title against former PABA titlist Rolly Lunas.
Also to watch out for are three promising ALA Boys in Robert Allanic, Rocky Fuentes, and Rollen del Castillo.
Allanic, fresh from a sensational third round knockout of John Ray Verano, takes on Roy Doliguez of Elorde Stable, while RP No.1 minimumweight Fuentes and Del Castillo tackle RP rated No.7 flyweight Bert Gawat of Cagayan de Oro City and Alex Aroy of RWS Stable.
The rest of the matches pit Rashied Bacus vs. Tantan Recablanca, Milan Melindo vs. Juaren Librez, and Alberto Yap vs. Agie Marapao.
Tickets are reasonably priced at P100 for general admission, P150 for lower seat, P250 for ringside and P500 for VIP/sponsor.
