VRJ Engineering kept its hold of the lead after getting past Kartabz, 95-87, in the Punta Princesa Sports Association (PPSA) basketball tournament at the Vicente Sotto Memorial gym.
It was a tightly fought match most of the way, with VRJ taking only a marginal 73-70 lead heading into the final canto.
But VRJ caught fire late in the fourth period behind the triumvirate of Michael Arias, Dodong Rosaroso and Amor Ciabo to consummate the come-from-behind victory.
Arias spearheaded VRJ with a game-high 28 points, Rosaroso had 18 points, while Ciabo chipped in 14 points on top of eight rebounds as they bettered their win-loss record to 4-1.
Toto Lawas and Lito Posadas had 18 and 13 points, respectively, for Kartabz, which fell to 3-1.
On the other hand, Cablex improved its win-loss mark to 3-5 after stunning the highly-favored Colonnade Supermarket, 93-86 in the 30-above category.
Fred Del Campo and Ekong Mosqueda dished out 18 points apiece, while Jayford Culipano and Jay-R Polanos combined for 23 markers for Cablex.
