Ynclino of University of San Carlos (USC) shattered two meet records yesterday to signal his strong comeback in the pool after a long hiatus.
He first swam for the gold medal in the tertiary 200-meter individual medley (IM), clocking 2 minutes and 30.24 seconds to win the gold medal, erasing the old mark of 2:33.09 by Andrew Dequina of University of Cebu (UC) in 2003.
A former national junior record holder, Ynclino then topped in the 100m butterfly event with a time of 1:04.08, which is enough to shatter the time of 1:05.23 made by Dax Tolero in 2001.
Earlier, Ynclino won in the 50m butterfly contest in 28.40 seconds but he failed to eclipse the time of 28.26 set by Mathew Vega in 2002.
It was, however, Ang who made a rousing performance in the distaff side, submitting a time of 32.47 seconds to break her time of 33.43 she established last year.
Joining Ynclino and Ang in the record-breaker seat are Antoni Yana Jr., Israel Nuñal and May Listones.
Yana of UC and Nuñal of USC finished first and second, respectively, in the 200m backstroke.
Yana timed 2:39.34 and Nuñal made 2:40.07, with both of their performances better than that of Ruben Suerte in 2002, who won the gold in 2:40.89.
Listones of USC, for her part, dominated the 200m backstroke in 2:31.01 to shatter the mark of Trina Ang, which is 3:06.60 in 2001.
The USC tertiary swim team also made an amazing swim in the 4x100-meter relay, clocking 5:44.38 to set a new meet record. The team is composed of Clanel Jo Celerio, Agnes Larcena, Lorhiz Echavez and Maribeth Ababon.
Meanwhile, USC is pacing the race in the tertiary level with 12 gold medals while UC trails with 9 golds. Velez College romped off with 2.
However, UC bounced back in the secondary division, capturing 13 gold medals as University of San Jose-Recoletos is a far second with 2.
