Due to financial constraints, the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) beach volleyball tournament will be postponed to mid-October this year.
Tournament director Thelma Datig said that lack of budget prompted them to move the event to a later date. The event is supposed to kick off tomorrow at Wigis Beach Resort in Lilo-an.
Datig said she already submitted the budget of P24,000, which includes officiating and filling materials for the sand court.
"If we stage the tournament during sem-break, it would be too late because the awarding ceremony is on October 9," said Datig.
Datig will be meeting with UC athletic director Bernard Ricablanca sometime this week and is hoping they can hold it on October 8-9 to make it in the awarding as teams have started their practice after the conclusion of the hardcourt volleyball two weeks ago.
This is the first time that beach volleyball will be included in the CESAFI program.
Cebu is known as beach volleyball powerhouse, dominating in the Nestea Beach Volleyball tournaments with Southwestern University women's team winning three-straight titles and University of San Jose-Recoletos.
