Freeman Cebu Sports

A venue for sports

FULL POINT - FULL POINT By Nimrod Quiñones -
The two-man team best-ball tournament organized by the KKK or the Kaibigan ng mga Kawal sa Kapuluan will tee off today at the Mactan Coral Golf Club. This event is held to raise funds for worthwhile projects that would benefit our soldiers.

One of the chief organizers of this event is my good friend and golfing partner Nelson Yuvallos, who celebrated his birthday last Thursday. Entry fee for the event has been pegged at P2,000 per player, which is inclusive of caddies fee and insurance.

This was originally set last August 27, but was reset to give the organizers more time to put things together. If you want to help our soldiers then this is one way to do it.

I wish I had more time for all of the things happening today, but I am a bit under the weather so will have to take it a little easy this weekend

I really hope taking it easy would mean just having to stay home, but how can I do that with the cluster 1 competition of the Gov. Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup taking place today in Talisay City and the Tri-Medialympics opening tomorrow at the Cebu City Sports Center? Then there is the last day of the semifinal round of the Executives' Cup 2005 at the City Sports Club Cebu where we will see a preview of the battle for the title and third place. I'm taking bigger doses of my secret weapon against illness, Xanthone Juice, to be fit for the weekend and I hope I can make it to the events that are happening.

When word got out that there is a group that would lobby for a football field and a diamond at the South Reclamation Project, several individuals have come forward to also help out for the love of sports.

The list is quite long, but there is one common call and that is for Cebu City to set aside an area that would become the permanent hub for sports in the SRP.

This is of course something that would ensure the continued growth of many field sports and I sincerely hope that this will become a reality.

Why don't you start imagining a place where we can all come together to play soccer, flag football, softball, baseball, and many more while developing closer family ties and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Wouldn't this be great? The SRP of course is the ideal venue for such since there is a wide area that can be tapped for this.

Maybe the city can set side a few hectares as a permanent venue for sporting facilities while allowing groups to temporarily use other places while they are not yet being used.

I believe that this would be the best way to push investment in the SRP rather than holding the drag races that do not promote fuel conservation. With an already overused Cebu City Sports Center, Cebu City needs another venue to promote sports and this could be the answer.
