Cebu Blue Marlins eye top plum in Iligan swimfest

- Rafael S. Alas III -
At least eight members of the Cebu Blue Marlins-University of Cebu Swim Team (CBM-UC) will eye for no less than the Most Outstanding Athlete (MOA) in their respective divisions in the 14th IASA Invitational Age Group Swim Meet and 3rd IASA Invitational Meet for Swimmers with Disability on September 24-25 at the Mimar's Springway Resort in Timoga.

Swimming coach Rolando Alvarez, who will also be seeing action in the Swimmers with Disability class, is banking on mermaid Dianne Cañeda to lead the surge for the Cebuanos.

She will be competing in the 15-17 years old age bracket.

The other swimmers who are eyeing for the MOA are Anthony Navarro (6-Under), Jing-jing Belleza (7-8), Jefrey Yana, Trina Cañeda and Michael David Vega (7-8), Paula Abigail Vega (11-12) and Andy Dequina (18 above).

The CBM-UC swim team will also be topbilled by 18 other male swimmers and 9 females.

The stint of the swimmers is a project of the Philippine Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (PHILOSAP) and the Swim Against Drug program of chairman Oscar Mabilog.

Also, four other swimmers with disability will also be joining the competition, bringing the banner of Team Cebu City.

They are Alvarez in the S-10 category, Virgilio Sanal (S-8) and Noel Gonzales (S-7) in the Ortho division and Hilario Romano (S-11) in the blind category.
