Ateneo La Salle golfest tees off tomorrow

With one more day left to recruit, the team captains are busy beefing up their rosters for the 4th Ateneo-La Salle Golf Tournament, which tees off tomorrow at the par-72 Cebu Country Club.

With Ateneo holding the vast manpower advantage, the La Salle team is hoping to get a few more warm bodies to fill-up its squad before the event starts or even on the event day itself.

This dual meet is open exclusively to students and alumni of Ateneo and La Salle and all those who went to a Jesuit or a La Salle school for at least one school year.

Toby Florendo, tournament chairman of the Blue Eagles, who are hosting this year's edition of the tournament, said that big raffle prizes await the players during the awards night on Thursday at Teatro Casino inside the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

The players will be classified under age categories and will be vying for points based on their gross and net scores in the Blind Callaway Handicapping Format.

The school that logs the most points after the two-day event will be decaled as champion.

The event is also timely since Ateneo and La Salle will clash on Thursday afternoon in the UAAP basketball tournament in Metro Manila. A viewing party has also been set at the Cebu Country Club on Thursday where the supporters of the two schools will pit their cheering skills against each other.

The major sponsors of the golf tournament are Globe Telecom, Cebu Holdings Inc., Cebu Pacific, Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, and Taylor Made-Adidas.

Also supporting the event are Pagcor-Casino Filipino Cebu, Skygo, Hapee Toothpaste, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, Isuzu Mandaue, Citibank, and Sirlitz.

Entry fee for the event has been pegged at P1,500 for non-members of Cebu Country Club and P1,000 for members. Those who would like to improve their score and play a second day on the 15th will be assessed P1,000 for non-members and P500 for members.
