Club Filipino Incorporada de Cebu 70th anniversaery tournament: Moro's team dominates

After a tough battle between man and nature as foul weather came into play, the 70th Anniversary Golf Tournament of Club Filipino Incoporada de Cebu came to a close late Sunday night in fitting awards ceremonies at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

The team skippered by Louie Moro emerged as champion of the four-day, 36-hole event with a total of 237 points on rounds of 127 and 110.

Moro scored 42 points in the opening round and counted on the 46 of Jaime Antunez and 39 of Wayne Congmon for their total that was also declared as the San Miguel Super Dry Best Team Score. The team's fourth player, Toby Florendo made 38 on the first round.

In the second round, Moro scored 31, which was the lowest for the team, but the tournament rules stated that the score of the club member must count for the team total plus the two best among the guests. Antunez added 41 in round two and Congmon had 38 to complete the three who counted while Florendo made 35.

The tournament used the Modified Stableford Scoring System. CLASS A

The title for the premiere handicap category went to the team led by Evans Tumaliwan (42-39), which fired a total of 233 points on rounds of 118 and 115.

The team members were Justin Neri (28-34), Efren 'Gungun' Gica (37-42), and Dominic Hing (39-33).

First runner-up honors went to the team of lawyer Julius Neri, Sr., who was in the company of to caliber junior golfers and his son lawyer Jovi Neri, who was also once a jungolf champion. Neri's team scored rounds of 114 and 113 for a total of 227. The skipper made 36 and 34 points.

The younger Neri (41-40) was with Cris Kokseng (37-39) and Charles Uy (30-32) as the guest members of the squad.

The team of Rolando Alberto (40-38) finished as 2nd runner-up with a total of 226 points (111-115). The rest of the team members were Boy Alegre (35-39), Felix Villanueva (36-38), and Butch Macachor (32-29). CLASS B

The team led by Pete See (37-34) bagged the title of this second-ranked division with a total of 228 points on rounds of 117 and 111.

Tony Tay (39-32), Dr. Sim Guinocor (38-37), and Edwin Espina (41-40) completed the line-up of the winning team.

First runner-up honors went to the team to Dr. Abel de Manuel (37-48), who towed his squad with a spectacular second round performance to a total of 227 points on rounds of 109 and 118.

The other members of the team were Leonard Lu (34-33), Dino Yap (37-37), and Gleen Yap (35-31).

Second runner-up was the team of Anthony Ting (38-32) with a total of 226 (114-112). The team members were Gabriel Yap, Jr. (36-32) and his brother Gilbert (39-40) and Collin Go (37-40). CLASS C

The team captained by Peter Militante (40-37) ruled this division with a commanding total of 233 points on rounds of 116 and 117.

Militante's teammates were Henry Dy (33-37), Alvin Tan (38-29), and Delbert Siasoyco (38-43).

First runner-up was the team of Larry Ocheda (38-44) with a total of 228 on rounds of 108 and 120. The team's second round effort earned then the San Miguel Super Dry Best Team Score.

The members of the squad were Jacinto Limyutian (33-41), Kenneth Ngo (37-35), and Marcelo Tan (29-33).

Second runner-up was the team of Ed Aliño (41-35) with a total of 226 on indentical rounds of 113.

The members of the team were Dr. Rene Rafols (33-39) and lawyer Owen Algoso (39-39). Bong Rosario was the fourth member of the team. EAGLES

Two eagles were scored during the tournament on the final day.

Wack-Wack's Pablo Soon nailed an eagle two on the uphill hole No. 1, whose green is perched atop a plateau about 15 meters high.

The second player to score an eagle was Toby Florendo, whose tee shot on the dogleg left hole No. 3 landed on the green.

They shared a Skygo motorcycle for their feats. SPONSORS

The platinum sponsor of the tournament was San Miguel Super Dry Beer while Casino Filipino Cebu was the diamond sponsor.

Pansit Malabon Express and Cebu Mitsumi Incorporated were the gold sponsors.

Popular singers Rico J. Puno and Haji Alejandro entertained the participants during the awards ceremony.
