USJ-R, UV survive foes in CESAFI football, volleyball

Defending champion University of San Jose-Recoletos Kicking Jaguars mercilessly devoured the hapless Cebu Institute of Technology Wild Kittens. 10-0, at the start of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. football event at San Roque Football field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
The Jaguars jumpstart its bid in a blazing note as they rode on the sterling performance of Jade Paghubasan, who knocked in five goals, scoring the ice breaker in the 5th minute and sealing the first half with another one in the 38th minute for USJ-R's 6-0 lead.
Veteran player Mark Buglosa shared the scoring cudgels with two goals as he sneaked in at the 13th and 21st minute while Jonathan Sollo and Oscar Ledesma banged in the 28th and 32nd minutes, respectively.
Things got event dreary for the Wild Kittens as the gritty Jaguars continued to toy with them, leaving them with no room to take any chances.
In the second half, the spirited Paghubasan again took the reigns with a goal at the 65th, 41st and 54th minute while Ledesma hauled his second goal at the 66th minute to seal the victory.
On the other hand, the University of the Visayas drubbed University of San Carlos, 4-1, in a come-from-behind fashion.
Junard Aguilar spearheaded UV's onslaught with three goals by converting all his shots in the second half.
It was Albert Nangkil of USC who drew first blood in the 9th minute, but UV retaliated with a long shot from Julius Acre at the 24th minute.
Aguilar then took the reigns at the turn by banging in at the 58th, 76th and 79th minute.
In the other game, University of Southern Philippines Foundation, Inc. fought for a 2-2 draw with University of Cebu.
In women's volleyball event, UV got even with Southwestern University after beating them in a grueling five sets, 25-13, 25-21, 25-11, 25-21,15-9 yesterday at the Aznar Coliseum.
Also, USJ-R whipped USC, 25-16, 25-16, 25-8 while USP trounced UC, 25-12, 25-7, 25-17.
