Three departments ended the University of the Visayas Intramural Games 2005 in a high note as they grabbed championship titles Thursday at the UV gym.
In the finals of women's basketball, the Criminology department won over Nursing via a shoot-out as both teams ended the regulation period at 3-all. But the Criminology cagers prevailed over the Nursing students after they successfully made two baskets with the latter managing only one.
But what brought the house down was the dancesport competition as the male-dominated crowd cheered for the dancers dressed in skimpy costumes. The Nursing department, recovered from its loss in basketball to win first place while the Teachers College and Computer Studies bagged second and third places, respectively.
In the finals of the men's basketball, saw the Maritime department drowning the Computer Studies (CS) department, 90-82.
A see-saw battle ensued at first half of the ballgame as the Maritime department managed to eke out a three point lead at half time 43-46.
But in the third quarter, it was already an all-Maritime show as they downed Computer Studies with more than 20 points. With five minutes left in the ball game, CS tried to stage a daring comeback but time was not on their side as they succumbed to the defending champions. - Norvie S. Misa, UV-Journalism Intern
