It's all systems go for the 2005 WG&A-Shell National Superkart Series, which fires off tomorrow at Kartzone in Brgy. Mabolo, Cebu City.
Kartzone marketing manager Joey Seno said in yesterday's SCOOP-Cebu forum at the Baseline Restaurant that top drivers nationwide will vie for honors in the two-day race of speed and time.
A total of 10 teams are expected to join the grueling battle including Team CRG, which will be bannered by Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC) 2004 Athlete of the Year and multi-titled karter Matteo Guidicelli.
Aside from Guidicelli, also to watch out for is rookie sensation Paolo Eslao, who is geared up to set the track on fire as he guns for his sixth straight win in the KT Light division.
Eslao, a 17-year-old Dutch-educated De La Salle University freshman, was undefeated in the previous legs at the Carmona Circuit Philippines, Boomland, Batangas Racing Circuit, the Asian Zone Karting and at Enchanted Kingdom to install him way ahead in the standings with 340 points.
The tight, but fast Kartzone in Cebu would not be much of a problem for Eslao. His family originated in the Queen City of the South and moreover, he's 175 points ahead actor-racer Onemig Bondoc, who's in far second with 165.
Meanwhile, Seno looks forward to an exciting competition as Kartzone recently unveiled its brand new karts in time for this weekend's tilt.
Seno is enjoining enthuasiasts to come and watch the event as it is open to the public for free.
