Dioko tells UV jocks: Strive for your dreams

Strive hard and reach for your dream.

This was the tone of University of the Visayas vice president for administration Eladio C. Dioko's message in yesterday's simple yet colorful opening rites of the UV Intramurals 2005 at the school's quadrangle.

Dioko egged on the athletes to do their best so their dream will come true, even as he stressed that enthusiasm and drive extended in the preparation by the athletics team should also be employed by the different colleges in surpassing the academic activities in their respective colleges.

"Excellence should be the yardstick in all types of activities undertaken in the university whether in sports, culture or in the academic field," said Dioko.

Meanwhile, three prominent UV athletes - Mark Jonas Ababon, who steered the four-man UV team to the Asian championship of the Adidas Streetball Challenge in Shanghai, China two years ago, scrabble team captain Teodoro Martus Jr., who placed second in the National Scrabble Championship in Manila recently, and 2005 Palaro triple gold medalist in gymnastics Jinky Indig lighted the symbolic urn of peace and unity.

Afterwards, the 17-year-old Rubelyn Jamis, a first year Hotel and Restaurant management student representing the College of Business Administration, romped away with the best muse accolade. College of Nursing's Aileen Jan Yap was first runner-up followed by Myra Lago of the College of Arts and Sciences.

In the pop dance competition, College of Nursing bagged the first place, while Education and Maritime got the second and third places, respectively. - Norvie S. Misa, UV Journalism Intern
