Rain halts CESAFI basketball game

- Gabby G. Malagar -
The showdown between the mighty University of the Visayas Green Lancers and the hard-fighting University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers had been moved to Tuesday still at the Pardo gym as well as the unfinished game between the Baby Lancers and the Baby Panthers as heavy rains marred the basketball event of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) at the barangay Pardo gym.

This as the Cebu Institute of Technology Wildkittens survived the tough challenge of University of San Carlos Baby Warriors, 65-64, in the first game.

Heavy rains caused the postponement of the games and the coaches agreed to move the game to a latter date for the safety of their players because rainwater started to enter the playing area.

The rain forced the calling off of the game between the UV and USP juniors at 5:05 in the third period with UV leading by five points, 43-38. The score and time will be continued this coming Tuesday, starting at 6 p.m.

Earlier, the Wildkittens rode on the heroics of Karen Rick dela Cerna who scored the winning basket in the dying seconds and were just lucky enough Baby Warrior Peter Alexander Te was called for a stepping violation at the sideline when he tried for a triple only eight seconds left in the ballgame.

Dela Cerna topscored for the Wildkittens with 15 points while Eliezar del Mar added 11 points.

The Baby Warriors were led by Adrian Alforque with 18 points while Giovanni Padillo and John Rafael Flanco had 11 and 10 points, respectively.
