Olis tops CEPCA August chess tiff

Cebu Executives and Professional Chess Association (CEPCA) president Jun Olis topped the August monthly championships last Sunday at the Stella Maris Seafarer's Center Pier 4 to secure a slot to the final battle come December.
Olis trounced Felix Balbona in the final round to post a total of 4.0 points along with Percival Fiel and Joe Atillo in a five-round Swiss System format.
But Olis had 16.0 tie-break points to snatch the title while Fiel and Atillo settled second and third place, respectively
El Labunog, who defeated Alex Ponce, landed fourth place with 3.0 points after edging out Pepe Gador via tie-break points.
The other monthly qualifiers were Dante Arguelles (January), Jerry Rallos (February), Richard Abangan (March), Renato Casia (April), Fred Sandalo (May), Zaldy Tabanao (June) and Jongjong Melende (July).
