After half a decade of trying and hoping, B-Meg '85 finally savored its first taste of a championship after it tamed Division II champion RC Goldline '94, 92-89, in their knockout finals to win the 2005 Osaka Iridology-San Carlos Boys High Alumni Basketball Association (SCBHABA) season the other night at the USC-BH gym.
B-Meg '85 ruled Division I for several times already, but always faltered in the finals.
Not this time.
This as the spunky B-Meg '85 cagers played their hearts out to frustrate RC Goldine '94, thanks to the deadly one-punch of Edwin Banaag and Lou Regidor. Banaag punched in 39 points, while Regidor rifled 32 markers.
Power forward Sigmundo Cabrera was at his best, churning out a season-high 40 points for RC Goldline '94, but his solitary effort went for naught.
"This is the most meaningful victory Batch '85 ever achieved. For the last five years, we've been a consistent champion in Division I, which somehow became an ordinary thing for us. We've been deprived of the overall title for so long and we can't help but be a bit sentimental about this," said Banaag, the leading contender for the coveted MVP award.
The scores
B-Meg'85 (92)- Banaag 39, Regidor 32, Pua 10, Mercado 5, Sepe 4, Ramos 2
