Cebu netters score sweep in Dipolog tilt

- Sona Mae V. Povadora -
The decorated Siso siblings, Bernardine "Niño" and Sally Mae, together with Francis Largo once again made the Cebu tennis circle proud after they collected a total of six titles in the Milo National Tennis Tournament yesterday in Dipolog City.

Two of the country's best netters today, Niño and Sally Mae, both of the University of San Carlos students, showcased their prowess and mastery on the court to snatch the championship in the 12 and 14-under divisions.

On the other hand, Largo of the University of the Visayas was equally awesome in pulling off a twinkill, reigning supreme in the boys 16 and 18-under classes.

The Osaka Iridology and Dunlop-sponsored Niño was too much for Fritz Chris Verdad of Aurora, Ozamis City, whom the Cebuano whipped 8-2 to top the boys 12-under diadem. The tournament officials were forced to set the game straight because of the heavy donwpour.

Niño captured his second title after disposing off Dave Regencia of Dipolog City, 8-5, in the boys 14-under category.

Niño's younger sister, Sally Mae, duplicated her brother's impressive victory, whacking Nina Jessa Marie Ladera of Dipolog City, 8-1, in the girls 12-under before before blasting her way to an 8-1 demolition of Jiji Helar in the 14-under.

Largo, native of Naga, shared the limelight with the Sisos by seizing the boys 16-under title after fending off fellow Cebuano Larry Antigua, 8-2.

Largo did not spare his training mate and Arafura Games partner, James Karl Cañete, from his wrath as he handed the latter an 8-6 beating enroute to wresting the boys 18-under crown in the tournament sanctioned by Philippine Lawn Tennis Association (PHILTA).
