Leiszl Lumindas-Getaruelas and her siblings led the cast of winners in the Takbo Kalinga's The GK Heroes Run, even as Riez Enriquez also made a strong impact by dominating the premier men's open class yesterday at the South Reclamation Properties (SRP).
Getaruelas, who once reigned as Cebu's road running queen, enjoyed a comfortable lead in the first five kilometers of the 10K run, but was slowly caught up by the younger Joery Ann Lee of Toledo City in the latter part of the race.
The two engaged a neck-to-neck battle, but Getaruelas capitalized on his experience to wrest the title via a powerful sprint finish.
Cebu's top female runner, Christy Sevilleno, together with Tirso Pamaybay and Bowen Montecillo, were missing in action as they try their luck in a Manila marathon today where bigger prizes are at stake.
Getaruelas closed her bid with so much joy as his two younger brothers also emerged victorious, with Remei and Ramil Lumindas posting a 1-2 finish in their respective categories.
Remei dominated the boys 3K over Reprinel Banzon and Francis Edar, while Ramil settled for the first runner-up honors in the students 10K run ruled by Gilbert Luterte.
In the men's open, Riez Enriquez silently worked his way to the top.
The Freeman Anniversary Run champion Roland Montebon of the University of Cebu was leading the charge, but failed to hang on.
In the final turn, Enriquez poured in all his energies left to win the title with the time of 31 minutes and 29 seconds, six seconds ahead of Montebon.
Despite his second place finish, Montebon still has something to smile about for escaping an accident as he was almost hit by the lead car, which was escorting the leading runners.
Joseph Penales ended at third place with 31.46 seconds clocking, while Adonis Singson was fourth with a time of 32.32.
The fifth to 10th placers were Mendel Lopez (33.44sec), Arvin Loberanis (34.03sec), Miljune Luterte (34.15sec), Greg Canumay (34.41sec), Tomas Nunez, Sr. (35.28sec) and Max Jun Espinosa (37.44sec).
In the women's student 10K run, it was Marie Joy Lauro who copped the title, while Myrna Ordoc and Jinalyn Andaya finished second and third.
In the 3K category, Salazar Institute of Technology posted a 1-2 finish in the girls class courtesy of Marie Fe Sabanal and Jennifer Montero.
Sabanal and Montero's coach, Merlita Arias, also showed what she's got after coming out second to Mila Luterte in the women's executive division as Cynthia Arnaiz was third. The men's side saw Nathaniel Villasor, Jeppy Lumangsod and Dino Cardinez occupying the top three sports.
