They came. They saw. They conquered.
Paref Springdale made a giant leap again as it captured two championship crowns yesterday in the San Carlos City Football Festival in San Carlos City in Negros Occidental.
Both the Springdale's team in the Under-8 and Under-10 blanked its respective opponents to become the most victorious group in the festival held as one of the highlights of the Charter Day celebration of San Carlos City.
The U-8 group stamped its class over Dragon Football Club, 3-0, while the U-10 squad, which is the Thirsty Cup champion, dumped OMC Football Club of La Carlota City, 4-0.
The final outing of the Springdale squad turned out to be different show when it tangled opposite OMC in the elimination round, which resulted in a 3-all draw.
In the finals, it was an all Springdale show in the U-10 division from start to finish owing to the solid backline defense of Miguel Flores and Nico Villacin.
Javier Gallego broke the ice via a free kick in the 9th minute for a 1-0 advantage at the half in a 30-minute seven-aside match.
Then, Igi Maximo was left open near the goal's mouth to sneak in an easy shot in the 20th minute for a 2-0 advantage.
OMC made a few flimsy attacks in the opening minutes but they were of no match to the more aggressive Springdale. Three minutes later defender Villacin banged in a long shot to extend the lead to 3-0.
With the victory already in their hands, Jondrew Amigo still was not contented and converted the final goal in the 25th minute to close the match.
"I'm proud of the performance of the boys. We were able to control the game while some of the goals were easy," said coach Mario Ceniza.
On the other hand, Sabin Veloso lead the equally tough U-8 squad of Willie Caballero by scoring two goals at the 10th and 18th minute while Mario's son, Lorenzo posted a goal at the 15th minute. - Sona Mae V. Povadora
