Tribu Sugbu tames Lions

Skygo-Tribu Sugbu chalked its first road game victory in the North, stunning the Baguio Lions, 72-60, in the Panasonic-NBC National Championships, Friday night at the jampacked University of Baguio gym.

Bernie Ursal was named best player of the game with his 12-point output in a game marred by bottle-throwing incident towards the end of the fourth quarter.

The victory improved Tribu Sugbu's card to five wins against one defeat.

Tribu Sugbu will be playing against Forward Taguig on July 4 and they will return home at the Minglanilla Sports Center on July 7 to face the Cavite Insurers.

The Insurers will be the first team from the North to visit Cebu, taking on Hapee-Dewfoam and Tribu Sugbu in different dates.

Leading by as much as 12 points, the Cebuano defending champions blanked out the gunners of Baguio, allowing the Lions only 20% shooting from the 3-point territory.

Aside from Ursal and Chris Ferraren, Eduardo Pening and Michael Luga also had their own show.

Alex Cainglet was shooting well, leading Tribu Sugbu with 14 points to compliment Doroteo Almacin's 7-point contribution and the scoring drought of Jessie Binongo, who finished with only two points.

Joel Bona led Baguio's offense with 14 points while Melvin Fontanilla had 13 points. Robert Giron who was Bona's teammate with Hapee in the CBF, chipped in 11 points but Ton who is among their reliable gunners was limited to just three points.

The loss gave the Lions a 1-5 win-loss record and further dropped to the cellar in the North division.
