Three members of Team Cebu City-tennis made another big leap for the Cebuanos as they reaped the championship crown in their respective division in the COPA de Manila Tennis Tournament at the Rizal Memorial Tennis courts in Manila.
All topseeds in their respective division, Bernardine "Niño" and Sally Mae Siso of the University of San Carlos Basic Education grabbed the titles in the 12-under division while Jacob Lagman of St. Benedict Childhood Education Center ruled the 10-under unisex class.
Of the three, it was Bernardine who was pushed to the limit as he encountered a stubborn Kyle Cordero of Manila in the finals for the boy's title.
But Bernardine, who along with his sister Sally Mae is supported by Dunlop and Osaka Iridology, prevailed after three grueling sets, 6-1, 6-7, 7-3.
Sally Mae, on the other hand, finally redeemed herself over erstwhile tormentor Regina Santiago with a vengeful 6-4, 6-4, rout to claim the girls tiara.
Santiago dumped Sally Mae in two tournaments over the summer.
The 10-year-old Jacob, for his part, firmed his grip in his age bracket, trouncing Christian Canlas of Manila, 6-3, 6-0. Last month, Lagman bagged the MVP award in the 10th Gullas Tennis Cup. - Sona Mae V. Povadora
