Francisco Abugho settled for a draw in his final round assignment, but that was all he needed to rule the Talisay Open Active Chess Tournament last Sunday in Talisay City.
Abugho fought to a draw with Carlos Moreno III to finish the tournament with 6.5 points, enough for him to take home the P3,000 champion's purse.
Voltaire Sevillano defeated Antonio Cabibil in the final round to settle for the P2,000 second prize with 6.0 points.
Anthony Makinano, Moreno and William Retanal Jr. were tied with 5.0 points, but Makinano settled for the third place honors due to a superior tie-break output.
Moreno and Retanal wound up fourth and fifth.
