Cebuanas from the University of San Carlos saved the day of the host team as their men's counterpart succumbed to the visitors in the 2005 Adidas Streetball Challenge regional finals at the SM City Cebu parking area.
Veteran Jessamine "Zacky" delos Reyes helped Team Glide to secure a ticket to their third Adidas national final outing after humiliating University of San Agustin of Ilo-ilo City, 13-7, to capture the women's tiara.
The 18-year-old delos Reyes delivered seven points while teammate Rachel Singson added three and Dianne Cañete and Barbie Silada had two and a point, respectively.
On the other hand, Boston of the University of Cebu (UC) fell to the hands of regional defending champion West Negros College, 13-21, to finish first runner-up in the seniors division.
West Negros leaned on veteran skipper Jonblargs Alisbo and Severino Baclao, the same players who denied University of San Carlos the championship title last year.
Alisbo churned in 12 points including four two-pointers while Baclao fired six points.
Harold Villanil, on the other hand, scored five points for UC, Julius Colina and Engange Ayuk carted four and three points, respectively.
The champions pocketed P5,000 plus P10,000 worth of gift certificates from Adidas while the runners-up won PP2,000 and P5,000 worth of gift certificates from Adidas.
West Negros and USC will represent Central Visayas in national finals come September at the Festival Supermall in Alabang, Muntinlupa.
Meanwhile, University of Southern Philippines Foundation-Forum dumped University of the Visayas-Ignite, 12-10, to seize the juniors diadem.
Under the tutelage of Camillo Go, team captain Sam Jordan Hermosa posted six points to power USPF while Phillip Munez and Michael Cabatingan had three points each.
Meantime, USC-Mc Spaghetti mirrored the women's feat as they won the midgets title.
USC, composed mostly of the 2004 Milo-Best SBP National champions, survived a nail biting 15-14 win over UC-Chicken McDo.
The team, coached by Christofel Abellana, was led by team captain Daryl Nazareno, Bradley Bacaltos, Elgie Purisima and Joseph Juariza.
