Boston, Glide rule

The University of San Carlos-Glide lady dribblers and Boston of University of Cebu (UC) drubbed their respective opponents to earn berth to represent Central Visayas in the regional finals today in the 2005 Adidas Streetball Challenge at SM City Cebu parking area.

Skippered by four-time Visayas Regional finalist Jessamine "Zacky" delos Reyes, Glide mangled Garvite, 15-4, to claim the women's tiara while Boston took the seniors men's crown in a cardiac, 15-13, victory over Beta, in an all UC finals.

The two Cebu teams will meet bets from Ilo-ilo City, which will be represented by University of San Agustin in both the men's seniors and women's division while Bacolod City will have West Negros College in the men's seniors and Carmella Homes in Talisay City in the distaff side.

The winners of the regional finals will earn P10,000 cash prize and will proceed to the national finals later this year.

Aside from the tough regional finals, Gentext Slam Dunk contest and Streetball on Wheels will also be contested.

In the midgets division, Mc Spaghetti and Mc Chicken will engage each other for the crown after defeating Mc Nuggets and Fries, respectively.

On the other hand, Ignite demolished Eskimo, 14-2, to enter the finals of the juniors division against Forum, the winner over Firefly.

Delos Reyes displayed savvy and grit in steering her team to victory by piling up seven points to led Glide's onslaught while teammates Rachel Singson and Barbie Silada added three points, apiece and Dianne Cañete tallied two.

While the ladies romped their way to the crown, Boston took the hard way as it was pushed to the limits by the pesky Beta.

Allain Abellanosa of Beta successfully banged in his buzzer-beating jumper to send the game to overtime as the regulation ended, 12-12 all.

However, only Abellanosa was able to sank in his charities for Beta in the free throw shoot out as Airland Tulda, Enganji Ayuk and Julius Colina all tipped in their attempts for Boston's convincing win.
