Sparkling Nights

Like a heavy favorite in the boxing bout suddenly stunned by a stinger by the opponent is how I feel after the Detroit Pistons leveled the NBA Championship series with the San Antonio Spurs.
The Pistons have dominated the last two games of the series and it seems this series is going to be more exciting than many of us expected. That is if the Spurs can pick up the pieces and show the form that made them the Western Conference Champions.
I only caught some moments of game 4 live watching it on the TV set inside the conference room of Mandaue City Mayor Teddy Ouano while we waited for him together with the Mantawi-Hapee Dew Foam Sparkling Nights basketball team and enjoying the delicacies of the city.
The Spurs did not even look like a shadow of their first two games in this series as they bungled one attempt after the other while the Pistons looked like a sleek car that just came out of one of the many car plants in their home city.
The winner of game 5 will now have that pivotal victory that will put the team to within a game of clinching the title.
I haven't changed loyalties yet and hope to see the Spurs get their acts together immediately.
The Sparkling Nights called on Mayor Ouano yesterday since the team will debut tomorrow in the National Basketball Conference (NBC). The team's game was originally set today, but had to be moved to Sunday since the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex would not be available.
Things seem to have happened so fast. Several days ago Jack Huang of Hapee and Dewey Choachuy, Jr. of Dew Foam were just talking to Tito Palma of NBC and now the team is gearing up for the action.
Mayor Teddy Ouano was in his very fine fatherly form when he told the players to play hard, but not rough and prove how good the people of Mandaue, who they are representing, are.
Father's Day will be celebrated tomorrow, but for me it doesn't have to be only one day of the year that we do so.
Today, I'm taking my son to the first meeting this school year of the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit Football Club.
If you happen to have a child in the elementary level studying at SHS-J, don't hesitate to take him or her to the field at the Cebu Business Park this 8 am.
Yes, we're opening the club to girls this year so that it will be a complete family affair when we gather at the field.
There are no plans yet to set up a Moms United Football Club though, but who knows that might happen soon.
The Dads United Football Club has been actively working to get the club together this school year and I hope to see more of this happening throughout the year. I also wish to see more of this in other schools so we can have a very active football community in Cebu.
With more teams and more people involved, the Cebu Football Association will definitely have its hands full. But, I'm sure that is a problem that my good friend Jonathan 'Maxi' Maximo, the president of CebuFA, would like to have.
