City recognizes 10 outstanding farmers
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government has officially recognized ten outstanding farmers for their significant contributions to the field of agriculture.
During an awarding ceremony, farmers were honored across seven categories, celebrating excellence in vegetable, corn, livestock, cut flower, and ornamental plant farming.
Jeffrey Gabayan from Agsungot was recognized as the Outstanding Corn Grower.
In the North District, Sammy Leyson of Barangay Guba and Bonifacio Marikit of Barangay Lusaran were named the Most Outstanding Vegetable Growers.
Meanwhile, Edwin Paran of Barangay Sinsin and Leonardo Gabisay of Barangay Babag were awarded the same distinction in the South District.
For livestock farming, Eugene Leyson of Adlaon and Dennis Dabuco of Malubog emerged as the top growers in the North District, while Angeles Tabas of Toong claimed the title in the South District.
Sirao’s Mateo Borres was acknowledged as the Outstanding Cut Flower Grower, and Pamutan’s Melchorie Econas was honored as the Outstanding Ornamental Plant Grower.
The top farmers each received a cash prize of P10,000 and a plaque of recognition, as reported by the city’s Public Information Office (PIO).
In addition, five other finalists were awarded P5,000 and a plaque of appreciation for their dedication and hard work.
“Dugay na gyud ko nagdamgo nga i-modernize gyud unta ang atong panguma kay kon magsige lang ta og piko, pala, guna, hinay ang produksyon,” said City Councilor Pastor “Jun” Alcover Jr., chairman of the City Council’s Agriculture Committee.
Alongside recognizing the city’s top-performing farmers, Alcover also announced plans to purchase modern tractors to help boost productivity in the agricultural sector. — (FREEMAN)
