CEBU, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Cebu recently convened with the Cebu Port Authority (CPA), Oriental Port and Allied Services Corporation (OPASCOR), Association of International Shipping Lines (AISL), and shipping lines to streamline port operations and address key concerns.

The CPA assured that Customs employees will be issued free access IDs to the Cebu International Port upon submission of the required list.

OPASCOR clarified that electricity charges for reefer containers remain cost-effective for its clientele. It added that discounts were also offered for overstaying containers marked for condemnation in support of the port’s thrust in expediting the disposal of overstaying cargoes and boosting yard efficiency.

AISL confirmed receipt of the port’s request for certification of 46 duplicate entries caused by Typhoon Odette and committed swift compliance.

Addressing internet connectivity issues, BOC-Cebu District Collector Felipe Geoffrey de Vera, instructed the MISTG team to coordinate with the Administrative Division to convene a separate meeting with PLDT, OPASCOR, CPA, and the building contractor.

As part of its action plan, the bureau will follow up on shipment condemnations, explore NFA facilities for overstaying cargoes, and review the legal framework for transferring containers to the RRDS facility.

De Vera emphasized the significance of collaboration in driving port efficiency.

“A well-coordinated port ecosystem is essential to ensuring the seamless flow of goods and services. By working together, we not only resolve operational concerns but also strengthen Cebu’s position as a premier gateway for trade and commerce. This partnership is key to sustaining economic growth and supporting businesses that rely on efficient customs processes,” said De Vera in his statement posted in their Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the bureau congratulated Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) for being named one of the best airports in the Asia-Pacific region by Airports Council International in the 5 to 15 million passenger category.

The bureau, through its Subport of Mactan, plays a critical role in ensuring that the airport’s high standards.

“With millions of travelers and a continuous flow of cargo passing through MCIA annually, the Subport of Mactan remains steadfast in delivering fast, secure, and world-class customs services that contribute to the airport’s global success,” it said.

De Vera lauded MCIA for this remarkable achievement, highlighting the strong synergy between customs authorities and airport management in maintaining a smooth and secure passenger and cargo experience. — BRP (FREEMAN)
