CEBU, Philippines — The Civil Service Commission (CSC) and Department of Health (DOH) is reminding government employees about the benefits and support available for cancer support.

This is under CSC Resolution No. 2400721 or the Workplace Cancer Control Policy in the Public Sector, and Republic Act No. 11215, the National Integrated Cancer Control Act.

These policies provide comprehensive cancer control measures, including free cancer risk assessment, prevention, early detection, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care in government workplaces.

Under RA No. 11215, on the other hand, employees can access affordable and quality cancer treatment, with additional financial assistance through PhilHealth.

"Cancer is not just a health issue --it's a workplace and societal challenge that we must face together. Through these policies, we are creating an environment where no government employee has to feel alone in their fight against cancer... I encourage all affected employees to take full advantage of these programs and seek support from their agencies," said CSC Chairwoman Marilen Yap in a  statement.

To avail of the benefits, there are some requirements to comply with. These include a medical certificate from an accredited physician confirming diagnosis or risk and an active PhilHealth membership.

Employees are also expected to participate in cancer control programs in their respective agencies. Employees are advised to contact their agency’s HR office for guidance on accessing workplace programs.

For specialized care, affected employees are also advised to reach out to the DOH or the nearest Philippine Cancer Center or regional cancer center. The CSC also called on all government agencies to implement workplace cancer control policies and ensure employees are informed of these vital programs.
