Capitol introduces rates for bulk water supply project for Moalboal consumers
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial Water Resource Authority (PWRA) has introduced the tariff rate for water consumption for residents and business establishments in the town of Moalboal, southern Cebu.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia led the general assembly of the town’s water consumers wherein they discussed the tariff rates for Capitol’s bulk water supply project in the town.
According to the Capitol, a minimum of P115 per month for one to 10 cubic meters of water consumption will be charged to residential consumers. The payment will increase depending on the consumption of the household.
For commercial establishments like resorts, a minimum of P230 for a consumption of one to 10 cu.m will be the payment per month.
“Gibuhat namo ang tanan pagtubag sa among tulomanon. Inyo sab tubagon ang inyong tulomanon kay aron ang dugay na ninyo gitinguha ug gidamgo, baynte-kwatro oras, pito ka adlaw sa usa ka semana, way hunong, way pahinay-hinay, naa na gyoy tubig matag panimalay,” Garcia told the residents during the assembly on January 21. The assembly was attended by water consumers from nine barangays in Moalboal, namely, Saavedra, Tubli, Basdiot, Poblacion West, Poblacion East, Tunga, Lanao, Bugho, and Bala.
These residents who are over 8,000 are sourcing their water from private suppliers since they are not consumers of the Moalboal Water District (MWD). They have signed up for the Capitol’s bulk water supply program, according to Engr. Rey Marinas, chief of the Provincial Waterworks Division, as per Sugbo News, Capitol’s news arm.
Garcia, who heads the PWRA, explained to the consumers that the tariff rate the Capitol set is the same as the rates currently imposed by the MWD.
Capitol will start collecting monthly dues once the Cebu Provincial Board approves the determined water rate.
Moalboal is one of the 25 local government units in Cebu Province that is part of the Capitol’s Level III bulk water supply system initiatives, aiming to provide treated water to the residents.
In Moalboal, the Capitol has allocated P317 million for the bulk water supply project wherein the water coming from the spring of Barangay Bala will be collected, treated, and filtered to produce water consumption for the residents.
According to the Capitol, the spring in Barangay Bala can produce six million liters of water a day. — (FREEMAN)
