Compostela gets P5.54 milyong financial aid from Capitol

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu Provincial Government has allocated P5.54 million in financial aid to the town of Compostela for its socio-cultural activities.

During the Kumbira Festival in Compostela town on Jan. 17, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia pledged the amount from the Capitol to cover the expenses of the LGU as well as the six contingents for the grand showdown of the town's new festival.

Each of the six contingents have P200, 000 from the Capitol, while the LGU got P4 million for its socio-cultural program and initiatives.

Garcia also gave special awards to the top three winning contingents from her personal fund.

The champion, which is the Pundok sa Nagkahiusang Pamilyang Poblacion got P60,000 from Garcia; the Mahudyakang Kabatan-onang Mananayaw sa Kabukiran, which placed second received P40,000, while the Pundok Mananayaw sa Sakdapantamu received P35,000 from the governor after securing the third place. The other three non-winning contingents also received P15,000 each.

Meanwhile, aside from grabbing the top prize, the Pundok sa Nagkahiusang Pamilyang Poblacion also won the best in costume award and the best in street dancing.

The Best Intro Video was won by the Kulturang Cogodiangan contingent.

Kumbira Festival had its inaugural celebration after replacing Compostela's Queseo Festival.

The new festival was part of the 106th founding anniversary celebration of the town.(CEBU NEWS)
