CEBU, Philippines — Residents of Danao City in northern Cebu will have a day rest tomorrow, after the Sinulog Grand Parade today.

This after the Danao City Government declared suspension of classes and government work on January 20.

“It is expected that there will be an influx of Danawanon devotees who will visit Cebu City, where the basilica is located and where the center of the festivities will be held, which in turn, might cause various difficulties in securing transportation going back to Danao, apart from inconvenience brought about by traffic congestion,” Danao City Mayor Mix Durano said in his executive order.

In the said order, classes in all levels of public schools in the city are suspended, however makeup classes shall be held to complete the number of school days prescribed by the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education.

As to the private schools and colleges, the decision to suspend the classes is up to the school heads.

Work in offices in the Danao City Government is also suspended except for offices involved in emergency response, maintenance of peace and order, traffic management, solid waste management, hospital services, and clean and green services.

Frontline services will also implement skeletal workforce to cater to those with transaction like payments and applications

For private establishments and national government agencies, cancellation of work is up to the discretion of the management.

This year, Danao City is joining the Sinulog Grand Parade with its contingent composed of students and local government unit employees that will compete in the street dancing and ritual showdown. — (FREEMAN)
