Cebu to host lawyers confab
CEBU, Philippines — Cebu is set to host the 20th National Convention of Lawyers, scheduled to take place from January 30 to February 1 next year.
Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) National President Atty. Antonio Pido and Executive Vice President Atty. Allan Panolong extended an invitation to Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to attend the event.
Sugbo News, the official media arm of the Cebu Provincial Capitol, reports that approximately 4,000 lawyers from both government and private sectors are expected to participate in the convention.
It added that this will enable a participant to earn 18 Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) units.
The convention will also serve as one of the five required attendances at national or regional events needed to fulfill the requirements for lifetime membership in the IBP.
Members of the IBP are required to complete the MCLE to stay updated on legal developments and jurisprudence, uphold ethical standards, and enhance the quality of legal practice throughout their careers.
The Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo, is also expected to attend the opening day of the convention, with several Justices serving as MCLE lecturers during the event.
The Capitol's media arm said that Garcia is elated at the IBP’s choice of the venue as such a gathering will certainly benefit businesses in Cebu, adding that the Capitol is ready to support the IBP in ensuring the success of the program.
According to the Capitol's media arm, Garcia expressed delight over the IBP’s choice of Cebu as the venue, noting that the event will significantly benefit local businesses.
The governor also assured the Capitol’s full support to help ensure the success of the program. — (FREEMAN)
