Garcia pleased with CCPO performance

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Raymond Garcia has expressed satisfaction with the overall performance of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) but challenged city director Col. Antonietto Cañete to do more.

Garcia, who is running for mayor in the upcoming May 2025 midterm elections, said he wants the city to be more progressive and safer for all. He said this can be achieved only if the local government and the city police work together.

“I also want (to) show all of you that you are important, you are a partner together with the Cebu City Government. We have directions, we have a path, we have objectives that we want to accomplish together, united, dili fragmented,” Garcia was quoted in a report by the public information office.

Garcia expressed his appreciation and recognized the valuable contribution of the police, highlighting their sacrifices to keep the Cebuanos and the rest of the public safe.

“You(PNP) sacrifice a lot just so people will be safe. You sacrifice a lot just so people you don’t know will enjoy. But that is our calling and that is our mandate,” said Garcia.

Although he was satisfied with the performance of CCPO, Garcia reminded the police that are still a lot of challenges ahead, especially in the Sinulog 2025 next month.

Next year’s Sinulog is expected to be more challenging for the police to secure because it will be held back at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).

“Kitang tanan dako kaayo ta’g challenge, dako kaayo ta’g tahas—that we have to maintain peace, order and safety, especially during in January, which is just a few weeks from now,” stressed Garcia.

“So, I am expecting your utmost cooperation and hard work and dedication in making sure that Sinulog will be peaceful, malinawon, at the same time enjoyable for the Cebuanos,” he added. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
