Traffic Group warns motorists of strict road rules along SRP

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Fewer accidents have been recorded, and more drivers have been apprehended for various traffic violations since the creation of the South Road Properties (SRP) Traffic Group.

Since Nov.5, 2024, or since its creation last month, the new SRP Task Force has issued 900 citation tickets.

The SRP Traffic Group was established to support the Cebu City Transportation Office’s initiatives to improve the traffic situation at the SRP, especially with more businesses expected to operate in the area next year.

The majority of those apprehended by the SRP Traffic Group were truck drivers with busted clearance lights and incomplete documentation, as well as motorcycle riders caught driving outside their designated lanes.

Other violations included driving without licenses, lack of registration, and using expired student permits, among others.

The SRP Traffic Group also impounded 73 motorcycles, two four-wheeled vehicles, and six trailer trucks after their owners committed multiple violations, such as lacking documentation and failing roadworthiness standards.

Due to this, SRP Traffic Group operations head Jounald Bautista warned motorists to be cautious when traveling through the SRP to avoid penalties, especially since the city government has designated the area as a “discipline zone.”

“Atong gipahibaw sa atong mga motorista nga strikto nata sa atong pagpanakop diha sa SRP, ilabi nga discipline zone naman na siya,” Bautista said via the city’s Sugboanon channel.

While more citation tickets have been issued, Bautista noted that fewer accidents have occurred since the SRP Traffic Group began operations.

“Nakatala ra ta og 54 ka accidents sa SRP. Gamay nalang siya, compared sauna,” he added.

Additionally, around 43 incidents of disabled vehicles have been recorded at the SRP, most of which involved trucks.

Operators of large vehicles, such as trucks and trailers, are reminded to check their vehicles’ roadworthiness before hitting the road.

“Gi-remind lang gyud nato atong mga truck operators nga i-check gyud ang road worthiness sa inyong mga sakyanan sa dili pa ninyo padaganon kay kung ma-aberya mo sa Cebu South Coastal Road, matag oras ang among issuance sa citation ticket sa inyong drivers,” Bautista said. —/ATO (FREEMAN)
