Cebu City now amember of ASEAN Halal Chamber of Commerce
CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City is now expected to play a significant role in shaping the ASEAN Halal Chamber of Commerce following its membership in the said organization.
Becoming a member in the ASEAN is a significant milestone by itself especially the Muslim Community here, as highlighted by the City government thru its Public Information Office.
The Office of the Muslim Affairs and Indigenous Cultural Communities (OMAICC), led by Executive Director Ashlima M. Amer and Aleema Farida Matonding, participated in the ASEAN International Halal Roundtable Dialogue in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Organized by the Islamic Chamber of Commerce Malaysia Selangor, the event brought together key stakeholders from across the ASEAN region to promote collaboration and enhance cooperation in Halal food production.
With Cebu’s membership in the international organization also comes its expected readiness to engage in the global Halal market and attract investors, particularly from Malaysia.
Prior to attending the event in Malaysia, there were also Malaysian delegates who visited Cebu last October who expressed admiration for OMAICC’s innovative programs and new setups. This strengthened the city’s appeal as a Halal hub.
The dialogue also brought together diverse stakeholders, including representatives from the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos - Visayas Regional Office, merchants, and business councils from various ASEAN countries.
Key topics discussed included overcoming challenges in Halal certification and market access, as well as strategies to boost regional trade in Halal products. — (FREEMAN)
