City gets P251M revenue from OBO, city markets

CEBU, Philippines — A total of P251 million in combined revenue collections from the city markets and the Office of the Building Official (OBO) have been added to the coffers of the city government.

OBO contributed a total of P129,741,828.66 from January to November this year while the city markets collected P121,300,520.61.

“The Office of the Building Official proudly supports Cebu City’s initiatives and vision, continuously providing top-notch services to ensure safe and sustainable development for our citizens,” OBO chief Archt. Florante Catalan said in a report of the City Public Information Office.

Catalan said their collection improved by P4,233,395.49 compared to the same period last year.

According to OBO, bulk of their revenue collections came from business permits amounting to P41,286,703.29. For the annual inspection fees, OBO has collected P39, 217,862.71 while building permit contributed P24, 613,620.89 and P14, 881,933.96 for occupancy permit.

“In line with Cebu City’s goals, OBO remains committed to delivering efficient and reliable services that contribute to the city's progress and the well-being of every Cebuanos,” Catalan said.

The Office of the City Markets also noted an improvement in its collection this year compared to the same period last year where it only collected P5.2 million.  Its collection came from parking fees, arkabala (cash ticket), and from fines for various violations.

The OCM got most of the collection from the Pasil Fish Market at P27,509, 723.40. Carbon Public Market Unit 1 contributed P13,436,642.40 and P12,843,464.40 from unit 2.

OCM’s new acting administrator Irenea Geneston is confident that they will be able to reach their office’s target collection of P150 million in 2024. — (FREEMAN)
