Tourists urged to stay regularly informed of weather updates

CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Tourism (DOT) is urging tourists to stay regularly informed of weather updates as part of their travel itineraries.

In the wake of Typhoon Kristine, DOT has been assisting stranded tourists across various regions, ensuring their safety and well-being even after the storm has passed. On October 25, 2024, regional offices reported over 500 stranded tourists.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco stated that DOT has committed itself to ensuring the safety of both local and foreign tourists affected by Typhoon Kristine.

DOT has been working closely with regional offices, local government units (LGUs), and other government agencies to provide immediate assistance.

It has also coordinated with accommodation establishments to offer temporary shelter to those in need.

As of the latest update, the DOT Region 2 Office reported a decline in the number of stranded tourists in Batanes from 140 to 103, with a total of 37 passengers being accommodated in two flights last Sunday. All other previously stranded tourists across the country have been able to proceed to their respective destinations.

With Typhoon Kristine now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the DOT announced that regular transportation and travel schedules are expected to resume nationwide.

However, tourists are still urged to stay informed through official weather updates from PAGASA and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) as part of their travel plans.
