Traffic rerouting set for the “Kalag-Kalag”

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) encourages Cebuanos and others to plan their cemetery visits ahead of time, as traffic re-routing will be implemented starting October 31. This is to manage the influx of visitors during the observance of "Kalag-Kalag" on November 1 and 2.

Assistant Operations Head Jounald Bautista announced that CCTO has already laid out traffic plans for several cemeteries to ensure everyone's convenience.

Re-routing will be enforced in areas around the Queen City Memorial Garden, Carreta Catholic Cemetery in Barangay Carreta, Doña Pepang Cemetery in Barangay Tejero, Cebu Veterans Memorial Park in Barangay Labangon, Cebu Memorial Park (CEMPark) in Barangay Banilad, and public cemeteries in Barangays Talamban, Calamba, Cabantan, and Poblacion Pardo.

Traffic re-routing starts on October 31, but CCTO will begin deploying additional personnel from October 28.

“Magsugod atong rerouting sa Oct. 31 pero atong deployment sa atong personnel mag start ta sa Oct. 28 kay magsugod sugod naman atong mga katawhan nga mohinlo sa atong mga sam-ang,” Bautista said via the City’s Sugboanon channel.

For those visiting Queen City Memorial Garden, parking is available at the southbound lane of A. Soriano Avenue beside the cemetery, with a drop-off point across the cemetery. Traditional and modern jeepneys, trucks, and buses are prohibited from entering A. Soriano Avenue and must follow the established re-routes.

At Carreta Catholic Cemetery, a portion of Gen. Maxilom Avenue leading to the cemetery will be closed. Private vehicles cannot park on either side of the road near the cemetery. However, jeeps plying to and from Barangay Mabolo will be allowed entry. Traffic flow near the cemetery will also be modified, affecting Gen. Maxilom Avenue, M.J. Cuenco Avenue, Imus Avenue, and streets such as D. Jakosalem, Sikatuna, and T. Padilla.

Roads leading to Doña Pepang Cemetery in Barangay Tejero will be re-routed, with M.J. Cuenco Avenue and Imus Avenue closed to traffic. Motorists are prohibited from parking on roads leading to the cemetery.

Re-routes near Cebu Veterans Memorial Park in Barangay Labangon will include Colombia St., L.P. Balaga St., Bonifacio St., and Camomot Francia St. Parking will be prohibited on Colombia St., Camomot Francia St., and parts of L.P. Balaga St. A portion of L.P. Balaga St. near the private cemetery will be off-limits to vehicles.

At CEMPark in Barangay Banilad, private vehicles must use the outside lane of Gov. M. Cuenco Avenue, while public vehicles must stick to the inside lane. Private vehicles heading to CemPark can turn to J. Panis St. but cannot park there.

At Talamban Catholic Cemetery, motorists can use Gov. M. Cuenco Avenue, Highway 11, and Talamban Road but are prohibited from entering Kauswagan Road and parking adjacent to the cemetery.

For Calamba Cemetery, trucks, trailers, buses, tartanillas, and electric trikes are prohibited from using L. Lopez Drive and V. Rama Avenue in front of the cemetery, and parking is also prohibited in these areas.

For Cabantan Public Cemetery, visitors in vehicles are prohibited from entering and parking near the cemetery, specifically along P. Cabantan Street. At Pardo Roman Catholic Cemetery, vehicles are not allowed to enter or park along E. Sabellano and Dela Victoria Streets.

For specific details on CCTO’s re-routing plans, check the City’s PIO or CCTO’s Facebook page.
