171 avail of city s cash loan program

CEBU, Philippines — Some 171 Cebu City residents received cash grants from the city government to help them start a small business.

The capital assistance is part of the city government s Self Employment Assistance Program (SEAP) implemented through the Department of Social Welfare Services (DSWS).

All sectors in the community, including women, Persons with Disabilities, senior citizens, farmers, and sari-sari store owners may be qualified to avail of the cash loan provided that they are Cebu City residents and has monthly income of less than P10, 000, not employed whether in a private or government office, and has an existing small business.

The latest batch of beneficiaries underwent skills training with the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) before they are granted the additional capital for their business, said DSWS head Portia Basmayor.

Among the latest beneficiaries are from Barangays Agsungot, Mabini, Labangon, Capitol Site, Tisa, Tejero, Kasambagan, Kamputhaw, Tejero, and  T. Padilla.

Some of the beneficiaries got P5,000 as additional amount for their small business while others got P10,000. Those who got higher amount are those that have already paid the amount they borrowed earlier. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
