Permits for Guba hospital may be out soon – Garcia

Donna Rose Egos - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Acting Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia is optimistic that the construction of Guba Community Hospital will resume soon after the contractor promised to finish all the necessary requirements to get a building permit.

Garcia said he already met with the contractor, Alsher Construction, and the latter vowed to complete their application for the issuance of building and occupancy permits yesterday.

The acting mayor is set to visit Barangay Guba today to check the hospital, an extension of Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).

Earlier, Garcia ordered an investigation to look into why the delay in the completion of the project despite the lapse of six years. It was found out in the investigation that the project was issued a notice of violation by the Office of the Building Official (OBO) for lack of building permit.

According to Garcia, among the reasons for the delay as cited by the contractor was the ownership of the property.

"One of the main reasons kuno is...because...ang yuta has not been donated to the City of Cebu. Pero apparently, og imong i-tan aw ang titulo, naa namay allocation, which can now be used as a basis to issue the building permit," Garcia said.

Garcia, however, said the ownership of the lot should be out of the question already since there is already an allocation that could be used as basis in the processing of the building permit.

"Nobody just followed it up, not...until we were able to go there and we were able to look at the status of the building. Sayang kaayo," Garcia said. — (FREEMAN)
