CEBU, Philippines — An e-bike driver was killed after being shot by three unidentified men in Barangay Suba, Cebu City, yesterday dawn.

Police said the victim, Frederick Maitim Mejares, 46, was talking with his live-in partner when the unidentified assailants arrived and shot the victim.

The live-in partner said the first shot didn’t hit the victim who ran, but the second shot him in the back and killed him.

She also added that the shooter pointed the gun at her but it misfired.

“Kay pagkahuman nga nahagba na akoa pares, ako dayon ang gitiunan. Abi gani nako mobuto ang armas kay kung nibuto pato, igo ko diri (sa akong likod),” she said, adding she hopes the culprits will be arrested for the sake of her partner.

The victim’s daughter, Janedy Sabal, 20, said she only learned of the incident after her friend messaged her.

“Gi-chatan rako sa akoa amigo nga mao ni ang nahitabo mao to ni dagan nako didto niya pag abot nako didto wala na siya,” Sabal said.

Meanwhile, Mejares’ mother, Marilyn, said she assumes all of this was related to drugs. She also said her son got involved in a brawl and was badly beaten four months ago which may also have to do with this shooting.

Scene of Crime Operations recovered an unidentified slug at the crime scene. The San Nicolas Police Station is now conducting an investigation into this incident. — (FREEMAN)
