Transportation analytics: Moscow eyes working with Cebu City

CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development of Moscow has proposed to enter into a partnership Agreement with the Cebu City to exchange transportation analytics.

This was contained in a report by City Councilor Jocelyn Pesquera to the City Council, following her May 22 to 25 trip to Russia with suspended Mayor Michael Rama (in his private capacity) and Sister City Program Executive Director Karla Henry, among others.

In a letter endorsed to the City Council, Pesquera said that their visit and meeting with officials of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development of Moscow was “very successful and fruitful.”

“In fact, they have proposed to enter into a partnership agreement with the Cebu City Government,” read her report.

Among the priorities included in the proposed partnership agreement is the exchange of up-to-date transport data on a regular basis.

This, Pesquera said, involves online and offline meetings and events, including with members of the scientific and expert community and the implementation of joint research works.

The proposed partnership she further said, also aims to “produce analysis of the current transport situation in the city of Moscow and the city of Cebu and the identification of best practices for improvement of the local transport situation”.

“Finally, the partnership also aims to identify prospects for the development of the transport industry and the creation of an accessible and open knowledge based on transport situation in the City of Moscow and Cebu City,” read the report.

The document also included as attachment a joint statement that to implement cooperation, Moscow and Cebu City are “ready to participate in the Urban Transport Data project which is an international analytical platform designed to collect, analyze, visualize and publish transport indicators of the world's cities.”

“To form a holistic picture of the state of urban transport systems, and to organize a forum of experts and researchers in the field of urban public transportation development,” stated the report on the purpose of the cooperation.

The proposed agreement also required both parties to “organize meetings, conferences, committee meetings, round tables and other events, to assist in the exchange of visits of delegations.”

 “The parties intend to hold joint events to discuss participation in the project and identify new areas of cooperation,” read a portion of the proposed agreement. (CEBU NEWS)
