Capitol to fund Carcar train station restoration
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu provincial government will fund the restoration and relocation of the old railway train station in Perrelos, Carcar City.
According to the Capitol, to preserve the historical structure, the old and dilapidated train station will be relocated near the Tourist Rest Area (TRA), or a few meters away from the Carcar City Hall.
Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said the soon-to-be-restored railway station will be an added attraction for Carcar once it would be transferred near the TRA.
The train relocation is also crucial to make way for the road widening project that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will undertake at the national highway.
Dr. Jose Bersales, Capitol heritage consultant, said the Perrelos train station is one of the two intact Cebu railway stations of what used to be the Philippine Railway Company. (The other railway station is in Sibonga town.)
The decision for the Capitol to shoulder the restoration and relocation of the historical railway was made during the meeting between Garcia and Carcar City Mayor Patrick Barcenas, DPWH Cebu District 1st Engineering Office officials, private lot owners, and other stakeholders.
During the said meeting, the stakeholders were one in preserving the 100-year-old Libor family house. — (FREEMAN)
