CEBU, Philippines — The National Irrigation Administration (NIA)-Cebu Office yesterday held another Katuwang sa Diwa at Gawa para sa Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita or KADIWA where farm produce are sold at a very low prizes.

The KADIWA sa NIA is an event that highlights and supports the agricultural endeavors of local farmers. It was held at NIA Cebu Compound in Banilad, Cebu City.

Various farmer associations showcase their hard work and dedication in producing high-quality agricultural goods. NIA-Cebu said that the primary goal of the activity was to serve as a pilot initiative, gauging its success and determining the frequency of future KADIWA sa NIA events in Cebu.

The initial plan is to hold a KADIWA event every month but the final decision will depend on the results of recent sales and feedback from the farmers' federation.

The KADIWA sa NIA event also spotlighted the Integrated Carcar Rice Irrigators Association (ICRIA) for bringing an impressive array of rice products from Carcar City.

Alongside them was the Cantipla Lupa Maraag Irrigators Association from Sudlon II, Cebu City who displayed a vibrant collection of fresh vegetables. These associations play a crucial role in sustaining the agricultural landscape of Cebu, and the KADIWA sa NIA event provided them with a much-needed platform.

The first KADIWA sa NIA was held in March 20, 2024 which earned positive engagement and support from the community.

“The success of these events not only boosts the morale of local farmers but also encourages sustainable agricultural practices and strengthens the local food supply chain,” NIA said. By continuing to support and organize events like KADIWA sa NIA, the NIA Cebu Office aims to foster a thriving agricultural community in Cebu.

“This initiative not only promotes local produce but also brings the community together, creating a direct connection between farmers and consumers,” it further said. — (FREEMAN)
