New equipment at CIP seen to boost operations

CEBU, Philippines — The Oriental Port and Allied Services Corporation (OPASCOR) recently installed brand new equipment at the Cebu International Port (CIP) in order to further improve port operations.

Cebu Port Authority (CPA) general manager Kit Commendador, in a statement, said OPASCOR’s brand new quay crane and two new hybrid rubber-tired gantries have arrived safely and have been unloaded at the CIP.

Commendador said the arrival of the new quay crane and RTGs in CIP is seen to significantly enhance port operations, thereby, boosting efficiency and port productivity.

Transportation Undersecretary for Maritime Elmer Francisco Sarmiento, together with Comendador, and Commissioner for Cargo Handling Labor Sector Leo Cañares, and other CPA officials conducted a site inspection at the CIP in time for the installation of the said equipment.

OPASCOR's total fleet of cranes consists of 6 quay cranes and 18 rubber tyred gantry cranes.

CIP can accommodate two containerized vessels at any given time. Its finger pier facility can also handle one general cargo vessel and one roro vessel.

Established in 1990, OPASCOR is a worker’s enterprise engaged in the service of cargo handling operations at CIP. — (FREEMAN)
