Named by LWUA-installed board: MCWD gets new GM

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Metro Cebu Water District (MWCD)’s Interim Board of Directors has named lawyer John Dx Lapid as its acting general manager.

This came following the suspension of Edgar Donoso that the Interim Board imposed on him for his alleged continuing defiance of the body’s orders.

Donoso has publicly expressed loyalty to suspended MCWD chairman Jose Daluz, III, despite the Local Water Utilities Administration.

Lapid, head of the Customer Care Division, will be acting general manager for at least 90 days, as reported by Cebu City’s Public Information Office.

In an interview with The Freeman, Lapid, who has been working with MCWD since 2018, said he did not expect the appointment.

“It came as a surprise…. It’s a very big task…. Of course, we need to study, although I already have ideas on what’s the problem with MCWD,” he said.

Lapid said he accepted the challenge with the hope of helping the LWUA in its investigation.

He made it clear, though, that if there are no complications along the way, Donoso may return to his post after serving his suspension.

“We are loyal to our organization. If they (LWUA) finds nothing, walay problema, mabalik ra ning among GM ani,” he said.

Lapid said he tried to reach out to Donoso but the latter has not yet responded.

The LWUA has also asked for police assistance once again to ensure that Donoso and Daluz would not be able to enter the MCWD premises while they are under suspension.

LWUA appointed an Interim Board of Directors for a partial takeover last March 15, while suspending Daluz, Miguelito Pato, and Jodelyn Mae Seno as part of the Board of Directors.

The Interim Board would serve for six months. (CEBU NEWS)
